Transcript:

0:01 I'm going to walk you through how to create a redirect or shortcut URL. First, read the description below this video.

0:08 Before watching this video, it asks you to consider whether or not you truly need a redirect. If you've thought this through and you're ready to create a redirect follow these steps, hover over tools and click redirection, then click add new.

0:30 The example I used today is to redirect visitors accessing the URL rank higher to the blog post, how to improve Google rankings.
0:42 I will copy this URL and I'll paste that into the source URL field. For the query parameter we can use ignore and pass parameter to the target for this type of redirect.

0:57 Make sure no spaces exist in this field, by the way. Next I'll copy the target URL or the blog post URL that they'll end up on and paste that into the target URL field.

1:12 In this case, I'll choose redirections for the group URL, click add redirect. The redirect now exists down in the table below and the next most important step is to ensure you test the redirect to ensure that it's actually working on the live website.

1:33 So when anyone visiting rank higher, we'll go to this blog post. So let's give that a test.

1:47 And there you go. The redirect worked. If you are running into problems and you redirect did not work, check your redirect to ensure there are no spaces.

1:58 You can do that by hovering over this and clicking edit. Check for any spaces that might be within the field, delete those spaces and click save.

2:10 Then test your redirect again. If you tested your redirect again, and it did not work, I encourage you to use our support team, submit a support ticket with all the details and someone from our team will get back to you as soon as possible.
