For a full list of page blocks available on your site, with examples of all different settings and layout options, refer to your site's page block library!
0:00 Hi there, Toby here from Orbit Media. Today I'm going to show you how to insert page blocks from your page block library onto pages.
0:08 This is a big part of content entry, so it's an important thing to know how to do. If you are new to your site, or you're still familiarizing yourself with your page blocks, this page block library, you should, uh, come here first to your page block library where you will see this grid of all of your
0:22 different page block types. Um, your site might have some custom page blocks, you might have different iterations of them, each site is going to be a little bit unique.
0:29 Um, what we're going to do is, uh, I've got this, uh, this about us page set up as an example to show you how to insert page blocks onto a page.
0:39 If we come into the back end here, we are looking at the Gutenberg editor, uhm, and you can see I've got two page blocks in place already.
0:46 I've got this hero page block, uh, most of your pages will start with a hero block, and then I've got a team feed block in here.
0:53 But let's say I want to add in another page block. There's basically two ways you can do this. Uhm, if you come up here and click this blue plus icon, this will toggle your block inserter, and then you can scroll down here to this section that says orbit media blocks.
1:09 These are the page blocks that we have created for your site, uhm, and each of these corresponds to one of the cards, if we come back to our page block library, uh, one of these over here.
1:20 So, let's say I want to insert a call to action. action page block, uhm, you can come in here and see all of your different call to action page blocks and what all the different things they can look like, uhm, and then I'm going to come to the back end of this page and, uhm, and look for, where is it
1:34 Here we go, call to action. So I'm going to click call to action and you can see, uhm, we've got the page block labeled here, uhm, this will add a blank version of this page block to your page, uhm, and then you can start entering content.
1:49 Pretty much all of your page blocks will have a settings tab where you can do things like, uhm, set background colors or background images, in this case the call to action block has an option to make it an overlapping page block, every page block style will have a unique set of settings, uhm, and then
2:05 there's also a content tab where you can then come in and start adding the content, uhm, adding the content is going to, the way you go about that will vary from a page block to page block basis, uhm, once you've got all of your content in, you can click this icon here that says switch to preview.
2:21 I don't have any content in here right now, so it's blank, uhm, but, uh, for demonstration purposes, let's say I have some content in here, there's a couple other things I want to show you how to do, uh, this arrow right here, you can move your page blocks up or down to reorder them, uhm, to get an update
2:37 , an overview of your entire page, up here in the dashboard at the top, you'll see this document overview, and this will give you an outline of all of the page blocks, you can also reorder them this way, it's a little bit trickier, I find, but you can do that, uhm, here's your save button I'm going to
2:53 save my changes, uhm, there is one other way you can go about adding page blocks to pages, and that's simply copying and pasting them.
3:01 Uhm, so, I'm going to come back to my example page here, and I'm going to click edit page on my example page.
3:07 This is a helpful tool, uh, or a helpful method for entering page blocks that already have content on them. Uhm, so, I'm going to come down to, let's say, this one here.
3:17 This is an overlapping call to action that has content in it. to select this page block. You'll see it's got the, the blue highlight around it.
3:25 That means I've selected the page block. I'm going to come to options, uh, click copy, and then I'm going to come into the page where I want to paste it in.
3:35 Now, there is a trick to pasting page blocks in. In Gutenberg, which is that you have to paste on top of an existing page block.
3:42 So I can paste on top of this call to action page block. I could paste on top of another page block.
3:47 Uh, it doesn't really matter what you're pasting on top of. Just keep in mind that if you're pasting a page block, you need to have essentially a placeholder for a placeholder in place to paste on top of.
3:55 Um, so what I'm going to do here, I'll show you here. I'm just going to delete this one. I'll add in a placeholder.
4:00 Uh, it doesn't matter. I'll do a basic content page block. And then I will select this page block. And in order to paste, Gutenberg requires that you use the keyboard shortcut.
4:11 So this is either Command-V or Control-V on your keyboard. So you've got the page block selected. I'm going to do Command-V.
4:19 And now I've got this page block in place, uhm, with all of the content in it. So if you have a page block that's used on multiple pages that has a lot of the same content in it, you can use this as a method, uh, to sort of speed up content entry a little bit.
4:33 If you have additional questions about, uhm, the Gutenberg Builder or how to enter page blocks uh, you can refer to your how-to documentation or you can refer to the recording of your CMS
