Transcript:

0:02 I'm going to walk you through how to publish a blog article. This is a sample site we created just for this training.

0:08 Your blog may have other features such as advanced filtering authors, author, biographies, comments, or other custom elements. Look in your websites, how to section for tips specific to your website's blog.

0:20 Once you've written your blog article, you can log into the CMS and begin adding content. Click on posts, click on, add new, have your content document adjacent to the new template, and you can begin copying and pasting.

0:42 First, we'll start with the title of the post. Then we will add the title tag. You can keep separator and site title here.

1:00 Those are going to be dynamically populated based on your website settings. Next copy of the meta description, paste that into the meta-description field.

1:13 And now you're ready to start content entry. So back in the Word doc, copy your article content. Once in the WYSIWYG editor, click paste as plain text first, then use your keyboard controls to paste in the content you had copied.

1:32 Sometimes you'll see extra spaces in here. You can sometimes get rid of this by clicking the text tab and then clicking back to visual.

1:44 Now you can begin formatting. This is a bulleted list. Highlight the text, click the bulleted list icon and use your keyboard to create for bullets.

1:56 Repeat for additional bulleted lists. Next I'd like to assign the heading styles to the titles or subtitles of the page.

2:07 This is a heading two as is this one next I'd like to embed the YouTube video directly into the WYSIWYG, highlight and copy the URL to the video.

2:25 Click add media, click actions, Click insert from URL, clear out any text in the field paste in the URL, insert into post.

2:39 And there you have it. Next. I'd like to embed the image into the body of the article. I have the images ready to go so I can delete that.

2:51 This is just there for my reference. And I want to cut and copy the alt texts. This is the text that the screen reader will use to read the contents of the image.

3:03 Click add media. You may have to click add media again. If you've added a video recently, make sure that you're in a appropriate folder.
3:11 If your website does have folders, otherwise you would end up in the media library. So this is a blog article.

3:17 So I click that folder and I drag my images for the blog article directly into the folder. The image I would like to embed into the article is this one.

3:27 And that alt text that I've copied can be pasted directly into the alt text field, or I could simply type in that field next, delete the title text that's not needed and insert into the post.

3:41 You can see this image is quite small. If you click the image, click the pencil icon, you can change the size by using the size settings.

3:49 I will select full size for this one click update. Next I'd like to assign the categories. I know that this is an analytics article, and I know that this contains SEO and content marketing strategy.

4:04 I'd also like to include a featured image. This is my featured image. I have already pre-written alt text for this image.

4:11 So back to the article, copy the alt text it's here and paste it into the all text field, clear the title, field set, featured image.

4:24 And now I can publish the article. Back to the blog landing page to see what the article looks like. Just a simple refresh.

4:38 And it's now the first blog article in the list. There are two more things I'd like to change about this article.

4:47 First. I know that the URL for this article is quite long. In fact, if I click edit, I'll see that this is a huge URL and I want it to be shorter.

4:56 I already prepared what I'd like my URL to be. So I copy that permalink and I click into the field, delete what's there and paste the new URL click.

5:09 Okay. The next thing I'd like to change is the order in which the blog post appears on the landing page right now, because I just published this today.

5:20 It's the first article. However, I would like this article to appear first in, larger in the list in this case, all I have to do is change the date of the article so that the date on this one is April 28th.

5:33 I would like the date for this article to be after that, or before that rather click edit April 25th click, okay.

5:43 And update. And this will change the order in which the articles appear on the page with a simple refresh. You can see that the article is now second.

5:52 And that's it. Three more quick things before we end this training. First, I recommend you steal this content marketing template that Andy's created.
6:02 Also take a look at this article about how to write a blog post that ranks high and always follow her SEO best practices for on-page SEO.
