0:00 Hello, my name is Toby. I am recording this video as a quick tutorial for how to take a page and put it through the WPML machine translator tool.
0:11 It's a super easy way to create quick translations of your pages as long as you've got WPML fully set up.
0:18 So, I've created this example page here with just some placeholder content that's in English, mostly. I think there's some Latin in here, but that shouldn't be a problem.
0:28 So, I've created this example translation page. You can see, on the front end, it's got some actual page blocks and stuff in here.
0:36 So, this is, like, real working content. What I'm going to do, now that I've got all of our English content entered, first thing I'm going to do before I create any translations of pages is make sure that I'm translating them from the English version of the page.
0:51 And to do that, you'll come up to your WordPress toolbar up here and just make sure that the language that's in the toolbar is what you expect it to be.
1:00 So, this is your source of truth for what you're looking at. So, the page we're looking at right now is in English, or it's the English version of the page, and I'm about to create the Portuguese translation of the page.
1:12 So next week you're going to do, once you've got all of your content entered, you will click on this right here next to the save button.
1:17 Uh, this is your settings panel. So, you'll open your settings panel and make sure you're on the page section of this instead of the block section.
1:24 Um, so in the page section of your settings panel, you will scroll down to the language area here. Uh, and then I'm going to click this little plus icon here, uh, that says WP Translation Editor.
1:37 Um, this particular site that I'm working with right now only has one other language that we can translate to. However, if you have multiple languages on your site, multiple languages other than English, um, you will probably see a list here with all of the languages listed out and a little plus icon
1:55 next to each language. Those little plus icons next to each language will send this page through the WP Translation Editor individually.
2:02 Um, so that's how you'll do that if you have more than one language. Uh, for now I'm going to click this, uh, and then, yeah, you'll see something like this.
2:10 So, um, now I'm going to click the plus icon next to Portuguese and it's going to give me this warning that I'm leaving the site.
2:17 That's okay. We're going to click leave and this is going to take us to WPML's Translation Editor. Okay, sometimes the Translation Editor takes a second to load.
2:28 Um, so you'll see something that looks like this and what the Translation Editor does is it goes through the entire page and it separates out the individual lines of text.
2:36 Um, so here you can see this is our heading 1, this is our intro text, here's, um, some other header text.
2:43 The entire page has been separated out line by line. And then all you have to do, uh, is come in here and click Accept Translation next to all of these.
2:52 Um, so right now, I'm not using any credits right now, but if we had, um, the credits set up to translate things automatically, I would see Translated Content over here and then I would just review that translation and then click Save and Complete.
3:09 Um, now, let's say we get to something like this. This is, uh, some text here that on our front end is, uh, has a tag applied to it.
3:18 Let's see if I can find where this is. Um, I might need to refresh. Hold on. Our text is Proxima Nova Bold.
3:31 Oh, This is our, uh, this is our CTA link in the header. Take care. Bye. So when you come across a, a box in the translation editor that looks like this, that has, um, you, it's usually a green tag or a purple tag.
3:46 They use different colors to differentiate them. Um, what this is, is basically just a tag that's added to this text.
3:52 And you need to confirm that that tag is in the right place in the translated text. Um, now in this particular example, the entire string is the actual text.
4:01 It's the which is what this A is right here. Um, but, uh, sometimes if you've got a bigger paragraph of text with a link in the middle of it, you'll have to actually add that in specifically.
4:11 So in this case, this is fine. I'm just going to click accept and come down to something like this. So in the event, and it looks like this has been able to figure out where this should go in the translated content.
4:22 Sometimes it can figure it out and sometimes it can't. Um, so what I'm going to do is just remove this and I'll show you if you see, um, uh, a tag down here, that's not applied in the text.
4:33 What you'll need to do is look through your translated text for, in this case, this is link text. And I know this happens to be here.
4:40 Um, so I will highlight the link text where I want this to be applied. And then I'll click the tag that I want to apply to it.
4:46 So this will, you know, yeah, so you can see here, this is some bolded text. So this has got a strong tag applied to it and it's already figured out where that's supposed to go.
4:55 Um, most of the time, you'll just be confirming that it put it in the right place. Um, and then once we've clicked through all of these, I'm just going to speed down here, go Um, once we get to 100% down at the bottom, then we can click, uh, save and complete, and it'll say translation completed.
5:15 Now it might take a second for the translation to actually show up, but then this will take you back to the English version Bye-bye.
5:20 the page, um, and you're, you're basically done. That's how you create a translation of a page. Very easy process. Um, and, uh, the translation editor makes it very easy.
5:30 Now, once you have the translation in place, you'll see, instead of a plus icon over here, we've got a pencil icon.
5:36 Uh, and this is basically your edit button for a page that has already been translated. Um, so if I realize there's a mistake on the Portuguese page and I need to go back later and edit that, I'll click this here and it will take me back into that translation editor to make those changes.
